Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between water-based and solvent-based polyurethane?
Water-based is low-odour, dries quickly, and stays completely clear. Solvent-based is incredibly tough and gives the wood a warmer, golden-amber tint, but it has a stronger odour during the curing process and takes slightly longer to dry.
How long do I have to wait before walking on my newly polyurethaned floors?
Generally, you can walk on the floors in socks 24 hours after the final coat is applied. However, you should wait 72 hours before moving heavy furniture back in, and up to a week before laying down rugs, as the polyurethane needs time to fully cure and harden.
Will polyurethane stop my dogs from scratching the floor?
While premium polyurethane provides a highly durable protective layer, no timber floor is completely scratch-proof against heavy or sharp dog claws. We recommend a Satin or Matte finish for pet owners, as high-gloss finishes tend to show micro-scratches more easily.
